The Shires strike gold for second time in 12 months

UK country duo The Shires have been presented with their second Gold record in 12 months, with their sophomore album My Universe hitting sales of over 100,000.

The band’s debut record, Brave, achieved Gold status last year and has so far sold 144,330 copies, while My Universe has notched up sales of 102,077 since its release in October, according to the Official Charts Company.

The Shires are now the fastest selling UK country act of all time, while My Universe has not left the Top 60 since its release. It has also re-entered the Top 20 numerous times.

“We are thrilled My Universe has been certified Gold in the UK,” The Shires said in a statement. “Thank you to all our fans who continue to support our music and the UK Country movement, which continues to grow and thrive. There is so much great UK Country talent coming out of the UK right now, with the USA starting to take notice of what we and other acts are doing. It’s a great time to be making country music!”

Last year saw The Shires make country music history by signing a record deal with Nashville-based Big Machine Label Group under the Dot Records imprint.
