Making waves: Fontaines DC

Making waves: Fontaines DC

This week's hottest brand new act

KEY TRACK: Too Real
LABEL: Partisan Records
MANAGEMENT: Trevor Dietz
TWITTER: @fontainesdublin

WHO: Fontaines DC are singer Grian Chatten, guitarists Carlos O’Connell and Conor Curley, bassist Conor Deegan III and drummer Tom Coll.

WHAT: Modern punk, with a literary bent. Before forming the band, Fontaines DC’s members used poetry to articulate their emotion, now they use beaten-up noise.

WHERE: The five-piece formed in Dublin, and draw inspiration from the city and Ireland itself.

THE SOUND OF PUNK TO COME?

Quite possibly. Recently signed to Partisan, Fontaines DC could be 2019’s Idles. Partisan know how to make honest guitar music work, and they’re sending DC on tour with Idles in America next year. They’re also on the road with Shame in the UK this month.

WHAT SHOULD I PLAY?

New track Too Real is out now, and previous singles Liberty Belle, Hurricane Laughter and the delightful clatter of Chequeless Reckless are worth a listen.

ANY ALBUM NEWS?

The group are in the studio with Dan Carey (Kate Tempest, Black Midi), so expect their debut LP next year.
