Jamie Miller has reached No.1 with Babydoll (Island/Republic) following a chart battle with Tate McRae.
With the No.1 result for Miller, he becomes the first Welsh artist in 15 years to earn a UK chart-topping hit. The last No.1 for Wales was Sian Evans' feature on DJ Fresh's Louder. Jamie Miller is also the first solo male Welsh artist in 41 years to top the singles chart, after Shakin' Stevens' 1985 hit Merry Christmas Everyone.
Babydoll climbed a place to No.1 with 47,548 units (Official Charts Company), finishing 556 chart units ahead of Tate McRae’s Housewife (Ministry Of Sound), which debuted at No.2.
The single is also seeing global chart success, including a new peak of No.70 on the US Hot 100. It has surged 31 places into the Top 75 on Spotify’s Global Chart and is amassing more than 10 million streams a week on the streaming platform.
Island EMI Label Group president Louis Bloom said: “I am so proud and absolutely delighted for Jamie on his phenomenal achievement. The No.1 success of Babydoll is a testament to Jamie’s incredible self-belief, his singular talent, and the enduring power of a great pop song. It’s Jamie’s ability to truly connect with his audience that has driven this brilliant song to the top of the charts. The fact that Jamie is Welsh is another huge source of pride.”
