Melanie C is the next Album Champion for National Album Day (NDA).

NDA is set to return on Saturday, October 17, with this year’s theme celebrating music icons – covering legendary, cultural and contemporary artists and recordings.

Music icons identified in an earlier announcement included The Beatles, David Bowie, Oasis, Spice Girls, Jazzie B, Little Simz, Lola Young and Raye.

NDA is organised jointly by labels body the BPI and ERA, the digital entertainment and retail association (Record Store Day). Presented in association with official broadcast partner BBC Radio 2, it is now in its ninth year since launching in 2018.

Multi-platinum solo star and Spice Girls icon Melanie C joins BRIT winner and Grammy nominee PinkPantheress and Oscar-nominated composer Max Richter CBE on the Album Champions list for 2026.

I’m really proud to become an Album Champion and celebrate the magic of the album format

Along with PinkPantheress and Richter, Melanie C will help in promoting NDA 2026, which is set to unveil a series of activities.

Melanie C said: “I’ve always loved albums because they tell a story. They’re a chance for an artist to take you on a journey, to share different sides of themselves and create something that’s bigger than just a collection of songs. Some of my favourite musical memories come from listening to an album from start to finish, and I still love discovering new records in that way today.

“There’s something magical about the artwork and owning an album you can actually hold in your hands. Music has always been such a huge part of my life, so I’m really proud to become a National Album Day Album Champion and celebrate the magic of the album format.”

Last year’s NDA focused on rock, while previous editions have covered the ’90s, women in music, debut albums and great British groups.
