Warner Music Group (WMG) is expanding its Global Tech division with a new international technology hub in Bengaluru, set to officially open next month.
The new hub will drive technical innovation across WMG’s global technology suite, powering key initiatives in music distribution, data infrastructure and products, "from core data pipelines to audience and marketing data products".
It will also advance engineering efforts in those areas leveraging AI and emerging technologies.
Spearheading the operation will be Mahesh Rao (pictured), director of software engineering and site lead for India, who will define WMG’s engineering strategy, organisational design, budgets and operating model in the country. He will report directly to Toronto-based chief technology officer Leho Nigul.

Prior to joining WMG, Rao served at retail giant Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development.
“We’re building a world-class music tech organisation right here in Bengaluru," he said. "The calibre of talent in this market is exceptional, and we’re looking for ambitious engineers and innovators who want to help shape the future of the global music industry.”
The Bengaluru facility builds on the foundations laid by the Indian team over the past year, with recruitment already underway across multiple technology disciplines.
“Bengaluru isn't just an extension of our tech team – it’s central to WMG's global engineering strategy," said Nigul. "We’re investing heavily in local leadership, modern tech stacks, and globally competitive compensation to attract engineers who want to solve complex, high-throughput systems problems at the intersection of music and AI.”
Warner Music India MD Jay Mehta added: “Since establishing our presence in India six years ago with our Mumbai headquarters, WMG has been deeply committed to the market. Our global leadership recognises the incredible opportunities here – from our vibrant creative ecosystem to our world-class technology talent. I’m delighted that Mahesh is spearheading our expansion in Bengaluru.”
