Nominations for 2016 Audio and Radio Industry Awards revealed

The nominations for the 2016 Audio and Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) have today been unveiled by Radio 1’s Scott Mills and Pandora of Kiss FM.

The newly launched awards, organised by The Radio Academy and supported by Leeds Beckett University and LeedsBID (Leeds Business Improvement District), aim to recognise talent, innovation and excellence across the entire audio and radio industry. There are a total of 16 awards including Best Podcast; Best Digital and Audio Service (to include internet and streaming services), as well as more traditional awards such as Best Local Station, Best National Station, Best Sports Show and Best Network Music Breakfast Show.

Each category has a shortlist of five, with a Bronze, Silver and Gold winner to be announced at the awards ceremony on October 19th at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.  BBC Radio 2’s Sara Cox will host the awards ceremony which will feature live performances from the Kaiser Chiefs, Rick Astley and Gregory Porter.

Bob Shennan, joint chair of the ARIAS and Controller of BBC Radio 2, commented: “It is so good to have The Radio Academy awards back. They are the blue riband event of the year, reflecting the respect and commitment the whole UK industry feels about our favourite medium. Above all they have the hallmark of integrity.”

Phil Riley joint chair of the ARIAS and former chair and CEO of Orion Media added:  "It is great to have cross-industry awards back in the diary. Well done to all who entered, and many Congratulations to all the nominees of course, but from me a really big thank you goes to the judges, who took on a huge challenge at very short notice and have delivered as requested."
