Craig David among winners at Pre-MOBO Awards event

Craig David was among the winners at the third ever Pre-MOBO Awards Show last night (November 20).

The Southampton singer scooped the prize for Best R&B/Soul Act in association with Mi-Soul, a category voted for by the public. 

It’s comes as David’s sixth MOBO win, he picked up Best R&B Act, Best UK Newcomer and Best UK Single in 2000, Best UK Act in 2001 and Best Male Act in 2016. David will release his seventh album, The Time Is Now, on January 26.

At the London ceremony, which saw performances from Natty, Rachel Kerr, Kiko Bun, Mic Lowry and more and was hosted by Yolanda Brown and China Moses, awards for Best Jazz and Best Gospel acts were also given out.

Drummer, composer and producer Moses Boyd received his second MOBO after winning Best Jazz Act (in association with Jazz FM).

Picking up their first MOBO trophy, Volney Morgan & New-Ye won Best Gospel Act (in association with Premier Gospel).

Now, the countdown continues to the ceremony itself, which takes places at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on November 29. Cardi B, Krept & Konan, Stefflon Don, Yungen and Yxng Bane will perform on the night, with more artists to be announced. 

Stormzy, J Hus and Stefflon Don are among the artists to have been nominated this year.
