'It's been so good to be a part of this': Bastille's Dan Smith on making 2019's John Lewis Christmas ad

Bastille's Dan Smith has lent his vocals to the 2019 John Lewis Christmas advert.

The now traditional campaign from the retailer sees them annually allying a new cover of a classic track with their festive imagery.

This year's song is an orchestrated version of REO Speedwagon's 1984 track Can't Fight This Feeling, which Smith sings over.

“It’s so great to be asked to be part of this year’s John Lewis Christmas ad," declared Smith.

"As a band we’ve always had a lot of fun putting a twist on classic songs, and it’s been so good to be a part of this orchestral version of an 80s classic!”

Previously the likes of Taken By Trees, Ellie Goulding, Aurora and Elbow have supplied the soundtrack for the festive advert.

Lily Allen topped the charts in 2013 with her cover of Keane's Somewhere Only We Know, while Gabrielle Aplin also scored a No.1 in 2012 with her take on The Power of Love, both of which were commissioned by John Lewis.

Smith's version of Can't Fight This Feeling will be released next week (November 22).
