Spotify embraces traditional singles format with Spotify Singles launch

Spotify has made a play for the traditional singles market with the launch of Spotify Singles, a weekly initiative that will see the firm release ‘singles’ in playlist form with an ‘A side’ featuring one of the artist’s own tracks and a ‘B side’ featuring a cover of a popular song.

Spotify Singles launches with songs from over 20 artists, including John Legend, Tove Lo, Local Natives, Grouplove, D.R.A.M., Juanes and others who have recorded their ‘singles’ in Spotify’s new recording studio at its New York office.

Available now, you can find Legend’s Love Me Now backed up with his take on Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, plus many other releases.

Spotify also plans to add over 100 ‘singles’ in the new year.

Meanwhile, Spotify will also work with artists on live performance recordings for a new Live feature. Spotify Superfans, described as the most passionate fans identified by their listening behaviour on Spotify, will be invited to attend these performances.

Both Singles and Live will be given their own category in the Browse section.
