Michael Rivalland promoted to general manager at Virgin

Virgin have promoted Michael Rivalland to general manager.

As exclusively revealed in Music Week yesterday, the former marketing director who has worked with a genre-spanning selection of artists, including Chase & Status, Nero, Black Sabbath, The Libertines and Mark Knopfler, will now oversee label operations at the major.

"As the company continues in its No.1 AES market share position, its No.1 artist album position and is looking on course to regain its No.1 singles company position, it feels majorly appropriate to recognise Michael’s sizeable contribution and announce his promotion at the label," said EMI president Ted Cockle of the promotion.

Always a strong performer, Virgin EMI has been on a particular roll in 2019. Last month, it had 10 singles in the UK Top 20 in one week, while Lewis Capaldi scored the fastest-selling album of the year so far.
