"This shows how devolution can be a force for good": UK Music welcomes Manchester night-time economy role for Sacha Lord

Sacha Lord

UK Music have praised the appointment of Sacha Lord as Manchester's night-time economy advisor by elected mayor Andy Burnham.

Echoing the mayoral appointment of a “Night Czar” in London, the Warehouse Project and Parklife boss has been given the role of championing Manchester’s music and club venues, while also examining the city’s wider cultural offerings.

“This is more great news from Andy Burnham. We look forward to working with Sacha and giving him our full support,” said UK Music’s CEO Michael Dugher, welcoming the appointment. “We have seen what a great success London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s appointment of Amy Lamé as ‘Night Czar’ has been for the capital. I’m confident Sacha, who has a formidable track record and a wealth of expertise and experience, will bring many positive benefits to Greater Manchester.”

Lord will be supported in his new role by a night-time economy panel, which will include members from local councils, businesses, public services and other organisations.

“There is a fantastic music scene in Manchester and a great music heritage,” added Dugher of the new set-up. “This appointment just shows how regional devolution can be a force for good and a catalyst for change.”
