Media streaming service Audiomack has launched Night Plan, a new feature designed to make music more affordable for African listeners.
Night Plan lets Audiomack Plus subscribers download music overnight, when mobile data is cheaper on supported carriers across the continent, including MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile.
A moon icon signals Night Plan status throughout the download queue, while notifications keep users informed about the process. If Audiomack wakes to download more than four hours after the scheduled window, it skips and retries the next night.
Night Plan was designed around how African fans access music and how regional mobile carriers sell data
David Ponte, Audiomack
Audiomack co-founder and CMO David Ponte said: “Night Plan was designed around how African fans access music and how regional mobile carriers sell data. It reflects the reality that music access works differently from market to market.
"Streaming services need to embrace these differences and support fans, not try to change them. We believe music lovers deserve products built for the way they actually listen.”
According to the announcement, Audiomack has topped the app store charts in 11 African countries, from Benin to Zimbabwe, with African music fans racking up 109.3 billion plays and 16.3bn offline downloads since 2020.
Audiomack says a key driver of the growth has been strategic partnerships with mobile providers across Africa, including MTN Nigeria, Africell Gambia, and Orange Liberia.
Last year, Warner Music Group has agreed an expanded licensing deal with Audiomack covering 47 new countries. The partnership began in 2019 and was Audiomack’s first licensing deal with a major label.
