Global head of music operations Paul Hourican exits TikTok

Paul Hourican has left his role as global head of music operations at TikTok.

“After four and a half amazing years and with a lifetime’s worth of memories and achievements in the bag, I have made the decision to move on from TikTok,” Hourican posted on LinkedIn. He did not provide details of his next move.

TikTok has not commented on the departure of Hourican.

The video app has recently become embroiled in a licensing dispute with Universal Music Group, resulting in the major’s music being pulled from the platform.

Hourican joined TikTok in 2019 following five years at YouTube. He played a major role in the platform becoming a vital part of the music business in recent years.

As head of UK & EU operations, he was integral to the launch of the Sound On music distribution service on TikTok, which launched two years ago.

Hourican was promoted to global head of music operations in September 2022.

His exit follows the recent departure of David Mogendorff as head of UK music operations.
