A range of artists from Aretha Franklin and Johnny Cash, to Sade and George Michael, to Goldie and Emeli Sandé and beyond are to be celebrated on National Album Day this year.
Taking place on October 17 in association with BBC Radio 2, the ninth edition of the event has an ‘Icons’ theme.
With that in mind, this year’s list of albums – which are all being released in exclusive limited editions – has been revealed. Mixing reissued classics and new releases, the list of records (which you can see in full below) will be available to purchase through physical and online retailers.
Melanie C, PinkPantheress and Max Richter are on board as Album Champions for this year’s event, with more names set to be added.
A Spokesperson for National Album Day said this year’s list represents “strongest-ever line up of album releases and classic reissues, drawn from across all eras and genres”.
“We thank our record label partners for delivering such an outstanding selection of titles,” continued the statement. “And we look forward to working with the music retail community – on the high street, online, and digitally – alongside BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, and our official supporters, Cherry Red, DP World, Official Charts, PPL, Proper, and Trapeze, to offer the most engaging National Album Day yet.”
Last year’s NAD focused on rock, while previous editions have covered the ’90s, women in music, debut albums and great British groups.
