National Album Day 2026 delivers vinyl market boost

National Album Day has boosted vinyl LP sales with its celebration of the album.

The ninth edition, held on Saturday (October 17) and organised jointly by the BPI and ERA, celebrated music icons with 85 album record label releases and reissues, widespread retailer and digital service support, and a programme of artist and BBC activity.

Official Charts data shows vinyl LP sales rose 56% compared with the previous weekend (Friday and Saturday) and 25% year-on-year.

Whilst Fontaines DC’s new album Dopamine Chamber will have been a factor in the market, National Album Day titles still accounted for 47 of the Official Vinyl Albums Chart Top 100 and around one in every six vinyl albums sold over the weekend.

National Album Day will celebrate its 10th anniversary in October 2027.

For the 2026 edition, the lead titles according to midweek data include Tears For Fears’ Seeds Of Love, Michael Jackson’s Invincible, Pink Floyd’s Meddle, George Michael’s Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1, Adam And The Ants’ Kings Of The Wild Frontier and Housemartins’ London 0 Hull 4.

There have also been 5.6 million social media engagements to date – an increase of 35% on last year’s Instagram figure alone.

Other product highlights included Robbie Williams’ Sing When You’re Winning as well as PinkPantheress’ debut To Hell With It, which was reissued on clear vinyl.  Max Richter’s new work, While the Flood Rages, saw its release coincide with NAD, and The Damned’s Not Like Everybody Else was repromoted.

Other artist reissues across genres and eras included albums by Anne Akiko Meyers, Annie Lennox, Bob Dylan, Bruce Dickinson, Bryan Ferry, Donna Summer, Emeli Sandé, George Michael, Labi Siffre, Louise, Michael Jackson, Paul Weller, Phil Collins, Pretenders, Sade, Suede, T.Rex, and The Who, among many others.
