Raye sees Mercury Prize boost for winning album This Music May Contain Hope

Following Raye’s triumph at the Mercury Prize in Newcastle last week, her winning album has seen a consumption boost.

This Music May Contain Hope (Human Re Sources/The Orchard), peaked at No.1 following its release in March. It is now pushing for a return to the Top 10 for the first time since April.

The album is at No.11 in the midweek albums chart, up from No.88 the previous chart week. Meanwhile, chart-topping single Where Is My Husband! has surged to No.31 in the midweek singles chart, up from No.51.

According to Official Charts Company data, This Music May Contain Hope has seen a 274.7% increase in chart sales since last week’s announcement. It has total consumption to date of 146,679 units.

Among the nominees, BPI analysis shows that Jade’s album That’s Showbiz, Baby! has seen a 476% increase in streams across the two days following the awards show. Part of that is likely down to the positive streaming impact from the use of Angel Of My Dreams to soundtrack Kylie Jenner's appearance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The single has re-entered the midweek charts at No.37.

There have also been album streaming boosts (often starting from a low base) for Knats (up 453%), Kojey Radical (up 279%) and Dove Ellis (up 163%).

Dr Jo Twist OBE, chief executive of the BPI, said: “The 2026 Mercury Prize celebrated 12 brilliant, critically acclaimed Albums of the Year, including Raye’s wonderful This Music May Contain Hope, that all deserve to be appreciated by a wider audience. The Mercury Prize's impact and reach continues to grow, supporting the art of the album and helping human artistry in all its musical styles build fanbases.

“Many congratulations to Raye and all the artists of the year on their deserved success, together with my sincere thanks to our incredible partners, including BBC Music, Newcastle City Council, LNER, Fenwick, Freight Island, Generator, our label members, and all the teams that made possible such a special evening that will live long in the memory as well as a Fringe week that will help to create a lasting legacy for Newcastle – the city that sings.”
