Boomtown organisers launch new Bristol venue, Area 404

The team behind the acclaimed Boomtown festival have launched a new 3,500-capacity multi-room events venue, Area 404.

The club opened across two weekends with a Halloween-themed event earlier this month and features fully-immersive street sets reminiscent of Boomtown itself, bringing the festival back to the city where it was created 11 years ago.

Housing five rooms, the complex has been purpose-built for a full exploration and immersive experience, with hordes of actors bringing the sets to life.

It feels like a proper homecoming for us!

Boomtown and Area 404 organiser Lak Mitchell said: "It feels like a proper homecoming for us! We’re thrilled to showcase everything we’ve grown into since we started putting on gigs in Bristol over a decade ago.

“To be able to bring our unique mix of interactive and immersive theatre, the beautifully hand-crafted intricate set designs and to represent a huge amount of music genres all under one roof, is  something incredibly special!”

The main room features high energy live music,  with the medium and smaller rooms hosting live DJs, reggae, techno, house, dnb and disco. Each music room is themed and there are three additional theatrical installation rooms.

Launched in 2009, the 76,999-capacity Boomtown Fair takes place at the Matterley Estate near Winchester, Hampshire and was headlined this year by Lauryn Hill, Prophets Of Rage and The Streets. Its 2020 line-up will be unveiled in February.
