'I'm building the relationship': Tiffany Calver targets strong 1Xtra ties with America

Tiffany Calver is planning to increase BBC Radio 1Xtra’s imprint in America and strengthen relationships with US rap.

Calver replaced Charlie Sloth as host of the 1Xtra Rap Show at the beginning of the year and won the Rising Star category at the Music Week Women In Music Awards earlier this month.

“I’ve been going there gathering content for the show, it’s one of the cool things I’m doing, building the relationship back up with the US, which we haven’t had since Tim Westwood, which is great,” Calver said.

The DJ was recently in Atlanta for 1Xtra and travelled to New York last month, where she featured rapper 22Gz.

The DJ was speaking in the recent  Women In Music special issue of Music Week, subscribers can read the interview online here.

“I think I annoy my producers, I’m in our Whatsapp group every day with ideas, there are so many I want to bring to the show, plans to make it my own,” Calver said.

The presenter hinted that new projects would be unveiled soon: “It’s an exciting time, the industry is moving faster than any of us and I’m really enjoying discovering new elements of both it and myself.”

Calver also told Music Week  that she hopes to expand her footprint within the BBC’s wider music coverage, too.

“I want to grow my involvement with the BBC and bring ideas to grow rap music within the BBC and within the industry,” she said.
