Frozen 2 soundtrack: Could it be a Q4 blockbuster?

Could Frozen 2 be one of the biggest albums of Q4?

In the latest issue of Music Week, the OST is tipped to be a leading contender to come out on top in the gifting season. The soundtrack to the original 2013 film has sales of 1,158,196, according to the Official Charts Company.

Walt Disney Records/UMC has now revealed details of the soundtrack for the sequel. It is released on November 15, ahead of the film on November 22.

The soundtrack features seven original songs from Oscar- and Grammy-winning Frozen songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

The eight cast songs are performed by Evan Rachel, Wood, Kristin Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff and Indina Menzel. Norwegian singer Aurora features on the track Into The Unknown.

Covers of the cast recordings have been performed for the end credits by Panic At The Disco (Into The Unknown), Kacey Musgraves (All Is Found) and Weezer (Lost In The Woods).

“Their excitement for this franchise and these songs is represented in their wildly creative takes on each of their versions,” said executive music producer Tom MacDougall

The three covers feature on the digital and CD release; a vinyl release just includes the cast recordings.

The film’s score is by Grammy-nominated Christophe Beck.

“The music of the Lopezes and Christophe Beck are part of the DNA of Frozen” said co-director Chris Buck. “We couldn't imagine building Frozen 2 without them. They bring such a rich, emotional understanding of the world and characters, and through their incredible music we have been able to really deepen and expand the story.”
