'A completely unique talent': BMG acquires Ian Dury catalogue

BMG has acquired the catalogue of Ian Dury And The Blockheads

As revealed in the latest issue of Music Week, the company has licensed seven albums including the debut New Boots And Panties!!. The deal includes the No.1 singke Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick and other classic songs such as Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll and Reasons To Be Cheerful, Part 3.

“Ian Dury was a completely unique talent,” said BMG’s EVP, global catalogue recordings, Peter Stack. “I'm absolutely thrilled that we can get the opportunity to work with his amazing catalogue.”

The catalogue will now get a streaming push by BMG. Ian Dury is under-exploited on major platforms such as Spotify, where he has 202,766 monthly listeners.

In the past year, BMG buys include World Circuit Records, including the celebrated Buena Vista Social Club album, as well as recordings by Supergrass, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Dio, Thomas Dolby and Hank Williams.
