Merlin has appointed Harmen Hemminga as vice president, business development.
Hemminga has joined Merlin – the global digital music licensing partner for independent labels and distributors – from Downtown Music, where he most recently served as VP product & services strategy.
During more than nine years with Downtown and its subsidiary Fuga, he held a variety of senior roles spanning product strategy, licensing, partnerships and strategic projects.
Prior to joining Fuga, Hemminga worked across artist management, A&R, marketing, publishing and the live music sector, including helping establish the record label and publishing division of Dutch entertainment company ID&T/Headliner Entertainment. He also founded the music consultancy Creative Consortium, advising artists and entrepreneurs operating across the music and creative industries.
“The appointment forms part of Merlin's ongoing investment in its team and capabilities as it continues to support its members’ independence worldwide,” said a statement.
Hemminga has more than 15 years of experience spanning artist development, rights management, digital distribution, data strategy and commercial partnerships.

“In his newly created role, Hemminga will work cross-functionally to help identify, evaluate and execute strategic opportunities that deliver value to Merlin’s global membership,” said a statement.
Reporting directly to chief exec Charlie Lexton, he will also share his accumulated industry expertise across the organisation.
