Concord Music Publishing ANZ signs Surprise Chef's Jethro Curtin and Lachlan Stuckey

Concord Music Publishing ANZ has signed Surprise Chef songwriters Jethro Curtin and Lachlan Stuckey to a global deal

The publishing agreement covers all future works – including their forthcoming album Frogs In A Pond, which comes out in October – as well as Surprise Chef’s first two albums, All News Is Good News and Daylight Savings.

Curtin and Stuckey are also the founders of record label College of Knowledge Records.

Based in Melbourne, Surprise Chef have made festival appearances at Reeperbahn, Desert Daze, Pickathon and London Calling, while their music has also been sampled for a collaboration between 88 Rising’s Rich Brian and Ghostface Killah. They also provided the soundtrack to a Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime commercial.

We're stoked to join the ranks of some of our favourite songwriters on Concord Music Publishing

Matt Tanner, VP A&R, Concord Music Publishing ANZ, said: “Along with their fans around the world, I’ve been a fan of Surprise Chef since All News Is Good News, and their records have been on heavy rotation on my home stereo ever since – they’ve probably contributed to a couple of worn-out Ortofon cartridges along the way.

"They’ve built College Of Knowledge into a funk and soul institution, and their commitment to the music they love is something really special. We’re genuinely excited that Concord can now be part of the next chapter.”

Surprise Chef’s fifth studio album, Frogs In A Pond, is due for release on October 23 through Concord Jazz. The band will support the new record with a North American tour across October and November.

Curtin and Stuckey added: “We're stoked to join the ranks of some of our favourite songwriters on Concord Music Publishing; the likes of Liam McGorry, Joe Bataan, Baby Rose, Booker T Jones and Courtney Barnett, to name just a few, represent some incredibly high-grade company. Looking forward to writing some tunes, today and every day.”
