'Huge potential': Tap Publishing signs Balcony

The publishing arm of Tap Music has announced the signing of hotly-tipped South London four-piece Balcony.

Tap Music Publishing has already had success with pop superstar Dua Lipa and rising singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy, featured in this week's print edition of Music Week. The company is now predicting equally great things for Balcony.

The band are already signed for records to Parlophone by Nick Burgess and are managed by Polly Comber and Josh Tieku-Smith at Black Fox Management, home of Rag’N’Bone Man. They will play 15 festival dates across the summer, as well as supporting Lewis Capaldi later this year.

“We’re so excited to be working as publisher with such an amazingly talented band,” Tap co-founder Ben Mawson told Music Week. “And also incredible managers in Polly and Josh. We look forward to working with all of them and helping them realise their huge potential as artists and songwriters."

Recent Music Week cover star Mike McCormack, MD of Universal Music Publishing Group UK, had high praise for Tap bosses Mawson and Ed Millett, who partnered with Universal on their publishing venture.

“That was one of the first deals I did when I came back to Universal,” McCormack told Music Week. “I just thought Ben and Ed had something very special about them. It was great that they had Dua Lipa, but they’re fantastic A&R guys, very driven executives, super-smart… They felt like the people we need to be investing in. So I don’t think that’s a one-off. They’re going to be a force to be reckoned with for the next few years.”

Mawson and Millett were shortlisted for Manager Of The Year at this year’s Music Week Awards.
