Cooking Vinyl announces worldwide services deal with Sikth

Cooking Vinyl has announced details of a new artist services deal with Sikth.

Celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, Cooking Vinyl features in the  latest issue of Music Week, as co-founder & chairman Martin Goldschmidt and MD Rob Collins discuss the past, present and future of the company.

Progressive metal band Sikth have signed a worldwide artist services agreement for their forthcoming studio album, with Cooking Vinyl also acquiring the rights to two key titles from the band’s catalogue: 2006 album Death Of A Dead Day and 2015 EP Opacities.

Their influence can be heard across a whole generation of bands, including Sleep Token, Bring Me The Horizon and Spiritbox, to name just a few

“It’s an honour to welcome SikTh to Cooking Vinyl, a band I’ve admired for a long time and grew up watching in the scene,” said Tom Newman, head of frontline releases at Cooking Vinyl. “Anyone who knows the tech-metal world knows just how important Sikth are, their influence can be heard across a whole generation of bands, including Sleep Token, Bring Me The Horizon and Spiritbox, to name just a few. I’m incredibly excited to be working with them and to help connect Sikth with those audiences and beyond.”

Sikth added: “We are super happy to have signed with Cooking Vinyl. They share many of our artistic values. Tom grew up listening to our early records so he understands our world. We have started writing the follow-up to The Future…, and are excited to be working on our first full-length album with the original line-up since Death Of A Dead Day.”

Adam Sagir of Backbone Management said that Sikth “are a band truly in a league of their own”.

“They are musical pioneers whose fearless creativity has influenced an entire generation of artists,” he said. “Cooking Vinyl has shown that same independent and innovative spirit throughout its history, developing forward-thinking models that put artists first and creating a trusted home for distinctive talent. Their proven success speaks for itself, but it was the genuine passion of the team that ultimately made them such a natural partner for Sikth’s next chapter. We can't wait for what comes next.”

Sikth recently headlined ArcTanGent Festival and sold out shows at London O2 Kentish Town Forum and Manchester Academy 2.

In their recent Music Week interview, Cooking Vinyl chairman Goldschmidt and MD Collins offered up their advice for running an independent music company.

“It’s really hard, but it’s great fun – you’ve got to have a vision, be in a scene and work with stuff you understand, love and are really passionate about,” said Goldschmidt. “You’ve got to be prepared to sacrifice a lot. It’s like being in a band – you’ve got to sacrifice so much and really believe in it. And there’s no guarantee of success. But the other side of it is, if you do get lucky and you do get it right… I’ve had a fantastic job for 40 years.”

Rob Collins added: “You’ve got to surround yourself with good people and good advice. You do need a good distributor who understands digital more than physical if you’re just starting a new label off, but it’s the chicken and the egg – you’ve got to build up the turnover to get the distributors interested.”
