MistaJam to present drivetime show as part of BBC Radio 1xtra reshuffle

MistaJam has been unveiled as the new presenter of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s drivetime show.

Starting from November 6, he will take over from Charlie Sloth, who is launching a new Radio 1 show, The 8th With Charlie Sloth.

MistaJam, who joined 1Xtra in 2005 to present a midweek overnight show, currently hosts the evening slot from 7-10pm. Earlier this year; he covered Annie Mac’s new music show on Radio 1. He is also set to host Radio 1’s Dance Anthems on Saturdays from 4-7pm. The presenter won the award for Radio Show of the year at the Music Week Awards 2017. Revisit our interview here.

MistaJam said: “It's been a privilege over the last 10 years to helm the 7pm show on 1Xtra and in turn give so many artists, many of whom have grown to become some of the biggest artists in the world, their first ever national radio exposure. I'm looking forward to bringing a new energy to daytime radio - getting people home with a smile on their face and a new tune in their playlist.”

Of Radio 1's Dance Anthems, he added: “It’s one of those real iconic international radio brands so it's a massive honour to be chosen as the next caretaker in charge for a new generation!”

Ben Cooper, Controller of Radio 1, 1Xtra and Asian Network said: “1Xtra is on fire - great music, great presenters – and now MistaJam will bring his energy and passion for new music to drivetime. Can’t wait.”

1Xtra has also announced that DJ Target will take over the new music slot on 1Xtra (Monday-Thursday, 7-9pm) from November 6. DJ Target has been involved with 1Xtra for 10 years, breaking artists through BBC Music Introducing and 1Xtra’s 100% Homegrown.

The new Radio 1 and 1Xtra Saturday night simulcast schedule will see DJ Target, broadcast from 7-9pm, with Charlie Sloth presenting from 9-11pm.

DJ Target said: “To be given the opportunity to showcase the best in brand new music every weeknight on 1Xtra is a dream come true for me. My passion is stronger than ever and I cannot wait to get started in the new slot. That topped with the fact I'll be starting everybody’s Saturday night on both Radio1 and 1Xtra is just incredible. I'm truly honoured.”

1Xtra has also revealed details of 1Xtra Talks, a new programme featuring elements of Radio 1Xtra Stories, presented by Reece Parkinson, broadcast Sundays from 9pm-10pm.

Parkinson commented: “It’s really cool to be offered the show after coming through the ranks as an intern last year. I’m glad to be bringing a new generation of listeners through to 1Xtra.”

1Xtra will be announcing new shows for Friday evening shortly.
