WMG re-hires Oana Ruxandra to target mergers & acquisitions opportunities

Oana Ruxandra has returned to Warner Music Group in the newly created position of EVP, new business channels – chief acquisition officer.

Ruxandra, who reports directly to WMG CEO Steve Cooper, will help attract non-traditional partners and identify “unconventional” mergers and acquisitions opportunities. Warner’s recent acquisitions included youth-focused online platform Uproxx.

She will collaborate with WMG’s digital strategy and business development team, led by chief digital officer & EVP, business development, Ole Obermann.

Ruxandra previously spent four years at WMG, advancing to VP of digital strategy and business development. In 2016, she joined Universal Music Group as SVP of digital strategy and partnerships.

Cooper said: “As our industry continues its rapid evolution, we’re seizing the moment by expanding and redefining the concept of what a global music company can be. Working with talented people across our business, Oana will seek out a wide range of partners who will help us create original, forward-thinking opportunities for our company, our artists, and our songwriters. She’s from a new, diverse generation of entertainment executives, and brings a combination of digital experience, strategic thinking, and practical business expertise to her new role.”

Ruxandra said: “More than ever, the music world holds huge appeal for entrepreneurs, who see it as a welcoming home for experimentation and innovation. WMG is on a mission to provide a broad, open, and inclusive environment where independent thinkers and leading-edge companies can realize their visions, well beyond the scope of a traditional music company. I’d like to thank Steve for this exciting new opportunity.”
