YouTube Music has today (November 26) announced its second annual UK Ones To Watch artist spotlight. Ten artists have been picked to follow in the footsteps of previous alumni like Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran. The 2020 list includes the following acts: Aitch, Alfie Templeman, Beabadoobee, D Block Europe, Deno, Joy Crookes, Maisie Peters, Ms Banks, Sam Tompkins and Yungblud.
An official press release stated that the list was compiled by “YouTube Music based on a variety of factors, including YouTube views, subscribers, engagement from global music fans, and YouTube Music analytics.”
Speaking about the list, Roz Mansfield, artist partnerships nmanager at YouTube, UK said: “We are thrilled that this year’s Ones To Watch list is so diverse - a true reflection of music culture in the UK and Ireland today. The list represents a range of cultures all of which have one common thread; they are able to build genuine fan bases on YouTube Music, without boundaries.”
Earlier in the year, Aitch was named one of YouTube Music’s Artists On The Rise. The Since ’93 MC follows Mabel, Freya Ridings and Mahalia as the fourth emerging act in the series.
Speaking about the Ones To Watch list, Aitch said: “I definitely appreciate what YouTube has done for my career. I wouldn’t be where I am today without it, I don’t think anyone would.”
Maisie Peters added: “It’s so exciting to be on the 2020 Ones To Watch list and really quite mind blowing considering one of the first things I ever did on my own was set up my YouTube channel and record videos in my bedroom with my mum pressing the record button and then running out the room. It’s so full circle to be one of YouTube’s Ones To Watch when there is no doubt in my mind that without YouTube I would not be doing what I do now - my fans and I started on YouTube and will always love the platform with our whole hearts. Thank you so much!”
A number of YouTube Ones To Watch 2020 picks have appeared in Music Week's On The Radar section recently, including Beabadoobee, Aitch and Maisie Peters.
The new edition of Music Week includes an interview with Team Yungblud about his incredible rise to date.
